PKZIP for OpenVMS

Runtime Library Requirements

PKZIP for OpenVMS version 2.10 has certain requirements needed to run the program. These requirements include specific versions of the operating system, as well as specific versions of the run-time libraries. (Run-time libraries are files that are accessed by programs when they are running. The libraries act as an interface between programs and the operating system.) The required libraries may or may not have come with the operating system and may or may not have been installed.

Alpha

PKZIP for OpenVMS on the Alpha requires the following versions (or later) of the run-time libraries:

  • Library Name Major ID Minor ID
  • CMA$TIS_SHR.EXE 1 1
  • DECC$SHR.EXE 1 1

PKZIP for OpenVMS on the Alpha also requires version 6.0 of OpenVMS or better.

VAX

There are two different versions of PKZIP for OpenVMS VAX: Dynamically Linked and Statically Linked. If you do not have the required libraries listed in the Dynamically Linked Library section, you must either install them or you may install the Static version of PKZIP for OpenVMS, which does not depend on these libraries.

Dynamically Linked Library:

PKZIP for OpenVMS on the VAX requires the following versions (or later) of the run-time libraries:

Library Name Major ID Minor ID
CMA$TIS_SHR.EXE 1 1
DECC$SHR.EXE 2 0

According to Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), the authors of the OpenVMS operating system, these libraries require version 5.5 of VMS or better.

Statically Linked Library:

If you do not have the above libraries present, you must either install them or you may install the Static version of PKZIP for OpenVMS. The static version has been linked with all necessary libraries included in the executable files, and thus does not require the above run-time libraries. Because these libraries are part of the executable files, they are significantly larger than the default dynamically linked versions, and will require an additional 800 blocks of storage during installation.
