PKZIP for Windows

Enforce Use of Compression for Email Attachments

- to reduce strain on bandwidth and mail servers

The tremendous time and money saving potential of data compression can only be fully realized when organizations consistently compress email attachments. By automating the compression of email attachments, you can maximize the benefits of lightened bandwidth traffic loads, reduced strain on email servers, and more efficient use of storage space. Smaller attachments also shorten message transmission time, and reduce the likelihood that messages will be blocked by email gateways that enforce strict size limits.

PKWARE's Policy Manager helps you take full advantage of these benefits by locking end-user compression options via centralized policy enforcement. Policies can be deployed with either strict or flexible compression settings. For example, you can require some users to zip all their email attachments, while others can zip at their own discretion. And because both PKZIP and SecureZIP integrate directly with Microsoft Outlook, compression becomes a transparent part of daily communications. Compression is automatic and practically invisible, so no end-user training is required.

The Policy Manager provides the flexibility to configure and lock compression settings according to your organization's priorities. You can set size thresholds to ensure that database files or spreadsheet attachments greater than a certain size are automatically compressed. Or you can specify file types that are already compressed and cannot be further reduced, such as .zip files, which should be skipped.
