This document explains how to install and configure Intel® Math Kernel Library (Intel® MKL) for Windows* OS. Installation is a multi-step process. Before you begin the installation, please read this document in its entirety, as well as the System Requirements section in Release Notes. For information about the product contents, including new and changed features, please refer to Release Notes as well.
If you have a previous (lower numbered) version of the Intel Math Kernel Library for Windows OS installed, you do not need to uninstall it before installing this version. If you choose to uninstall the older version, you may do so before or after installing this version.
Before installing the Intel Math Kernel Library, you should check the File Downloads section of Intel® Premier Support to see if a newer version or update is available. The version on CD or as listed in your electronic download license letter may not be the most current. In order to download and install a version from Intel Premier Support, you will first have to register for support as described under Technical Support.
To install Intel MKL, you must have administrative privileges on your system.
Note: the default installation directory for the Intel
Math Kernel Library 10.1 is C:\Program Files\Intel\MKL\10.1.y.xxx, where y
is the number of the release update
and xxx is
the package number, for example, C:\Program Files\Intel\MKL\10.1.0.004.
To install the Intel MKL package on Windows*, use the following instructions. The installation software installs the full Intel MKL file set for all supported processors. See the Intel MKL website for updates, when available.
A license file that permits installation was sent to you by email along with your serial number. If the license file is valid, the Activation Complete dialog box will be displayed. Click Next.
In the next dialog box (Choose Installation Type) you can choose between two types of installation:
In the Choose Location
dialog box, you can accept the default installation directory (C:\Program Files\Intel)
or choose a different directory. All files will be installed into
the MKL\10.1.y.xxx
subdirectory in the directory you
have chosen (for example, C:\Choosen_Dir\MKL\10.1.y.xxx
), where y
is the number of the release update and xxx
is the package
number. Any previous version of Intel MKL may remain installed when installing Intel MKL 10.1. Be sure to update your build scripts to point to the desired version of Intel MKL if you choose to keep multiple versions installed.
In the Select Components to Install dialog box, which displays next, you can deselect components that are not required.
Note: Fortran 95 interface libraries for LAPACK and BLAS are delivered as source code, and you need to build them yourself. See the "Fortran 95 Interfaces and Wrappers to LAPACK and BLAS" section in the Intel MKL User's Guide on how to do this.
Silent installation enables installing Intel MKL on a single Windows machine in a batch mode, without input prompts. Silent installation is especially helpful in case you have to replicate the installation on multiple similarly configured machines, such as cluster nodes.
To invoke silent installation,
C:\Program Files\Intel\Download\w_mkl_b_10.y.xxx
folder.
setup.exe
, located in this folder, with the following command-line option/s /eula=accept /f <LicenseFileName>
where <LicenseFileName>
is the full path to the license
file.
To uninstall Intel Math Kernel Library, select Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
Note: Uninstalling the Intel MKL does not delete the corresponding license file.
